Here we go...

In a few hours time I will be having a mini holiday to Cardiff, Wales. Already I face the problem of restaurant food and whether they have a good selection of food for vegetarians.

If I am honest, I have rarely, if ever, been to a restaurant and thought about whether they provide for vegetarians or not so I am hoping there is a big selection of food. Years ago my friends have told me that they would struggle to find anything but a salad. I hope this is not the case now because I hate salad!

Today is my last day of meat so I will certainly be making the most of it.

For breakfast I had an amazing bacon sandwich. Normally it takes me about a minute to scoff it down however today it took about 10 minutes. I savored every last bite. I even considered bringing it back up again but then I remembered that I wasn't a regurgitating bird and I was infact a 27 year old man.

For the train journey I have a corned beef bap with a tomato in (gotta ease myself into this veggie lark!). Considering the last time I attempted becoming a vegetarian, which ended after a few hours due to eating a corned beef sandwich, I felt like I needed to face the demons .....and also it means I definately won't be having one tomorrow eitther.

Tonight we might go to Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Cardiff Bay. I've always wanted to go there and I ended up finding a 2 meals for £10 voucher online so that will be a good way to end the month.

All I know is that for breakfast on September 1st, I will have to walk past the cooked breakfast and go for the boring continental stuff like bread and jam. No Sausages, no bacon, no black pudding....ahhh....

Wish me luck. I won't be able to get on here to report how I am doing until the end of the week.

Bring it on...

I spent most of today looking on the Internet for help and then I finally I found it. A massive smile appeared on my face and I became a very happy bunny. It all seemed so much easier and all the pressure was lifted off my shoulders. After reading a lot of advice, I am proud to say that I have finally completed Angry Birds ipod game. Woo Hoo!

I am also getting more excited about becoming a temporary vegetarian. I spent a good amount of time to look through some food magazines and I came up with a lot of valuable ideas which has made me feel a lot more prepared for the task ahead.

A few examples of the types of food I found are:
  • Braised Asparagus with Slow Cook Egg, Cep Puree and Truffle
  • Confit of Beetroot with Biscotti, Roquefort, Horseradish Cream and Spiced Lentil Dressing
  • Artichoke Royal with Spring Vegetables, Perigord Truffle and Mushroom Veloute

I found those on The Ritz menu and to be honest, I don't really know what most of it is or even if it tastes nice so I think I will stick to the classics like shredded wheat, poached egg on toast, vegetable stir-fry, pizza plus a lot more fruit.

Already I feel like this will be a positive change because I have found a lot of food that I like but have just forgotten about over the years. I know it will be hard whilst I am tackling the task but I feel a lot more confident whilst preparing to tackle my challenge.

Give me a few days and I am sure that will change and I'll become a moany so and so!

Not very prepared...

With two meat days left until I become a professional temporary vegetarian, I must say that I have made the most of it.

Saturday
Breakfast - Bacon sandwich
Lunch - Chicken Tikka Wrap
Tea - Chicken M-something curry with keema naan

Sunday
Breakfast - Squared sausage sandwich
Lunch - Ham and egg bun
Tea - A Sunday pork roast with extra crackling

Even today I started off with a sausage sandwich. To be honest though, I am actually starting to panic about what I can eat. A lot of friends have said that it's all about meat replacement. Have the same meal but literally just replace the meat with something non-meaty. This sounds easy until I remind myself that I am not a fan of vegetables, mushrooms, onions, salad and the awful tasting Quorn...the list goes on and on. The only things I like are the things that make you fart a lot. I really don't want to have the nickname farty pants!

Today is a beautiful bank holiday in the South Coast of England. The sun is out, the birds are chirping, kids will be playing on the beach with ice creams around their faces and friends and family will be having their last bbq's of the summer. I, however, have a very important task of finding recipes and ideas which will help me with my challenge.

I shall report back later...

Who, what, where, how, when and why???

I am currently working my way through a to do list which has 196 tasks.

I am here to complete #46.

WHO?
My name is Tim and I am a man who likes meat.

WHAT?
I plan to become a vegetarian for a month and will write my experiences here.

WHERE?
Everywhere! My house, work, restaurants, bbq's....everywhere!

HOW?
I will attempt to pre-plan my daily meals, seek valuable advice from official vegetarian people , do a lot of research and try my hardest not to eat any meat at all. More importantly  I will study the back of food packets for the magical V sign.

WHEN
I have decided to start on September 1st and the last day will be September 30th. A meat-free month!

WHY
For those that have not read my blog I am currently working my way through 196 items which make up my 'to do list'.

I rarely have a meal which doesn't contain meat and I cannot remember a day where I have gone the whole day without eating anything meaty. I have tried becoming a vegetarian for a week before and on day one I failed miserably. Within hours of starting, I had just finished scoffing a corned beef sandwich. Pathetic isn't it.

I must admit that when I put this on my to do list, it wasn't because I don't want to eat animals or anything like that. It was literally because I ballsed it up when I tried previously. However after speaking to a few friends about this, I am actually starting to believe that it could be beneficial to my health as well as many other positive effects on my life. I guess we will see.
